Gertrude Reese Fite, 88, was called home to the Lord at 1:20 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2012 joining her beloved husband Martin Noel Fite, Sr.

Gertrude, known affectionately by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Nana” lived her life loving and serving God, her family, friends and anyone in need. She was an active member of Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church.

A native Houstonian, she was born on July 19, 1923 to Frank Reese and Mary Parkman Reese. She is preceded in death by three brothers and sisters and her infant children.

She is survived by her daughter: Mary Toomey Schneider and husband Judge Michael H. Schneider, Sr.; sons: David Wood Fite and wife Margret, Martin Noel Fite, Jr. and wife Doana, Michael Wayne Fite and wife Cheryl, William Russell Fite and wife Clara, Robert M. Fite and wife Robin, Norman Francis Fite, John Charles Fite and wife Joanie.

Her greatest joy came from her 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was available to them any time day or night, always listening and loving them unconditionally. She will be missed by all the people whose lives were touched by her gracious and welcoming spirit. The strength and determination with which she lived her life was evident in her dying as she continued to be an inspiration to all of us.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Epiphany of the LORD Catholic Community (1530 Norwalk Dr. Katy TX 77450), with a Rosary at 7pm. The funeral mass will be held at the church on Wednesday morning, May 30, 2012 at 10:30 am, lead by Msgr. Jack M. Dinkins. Burial will follow at the Houston National Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
