Ruth Vaughn McQuade Propps
January 2, 1922 - July 18, 2012
RUTH VAUGHN McQUADE PROPPS went to be with The Lord on July 18, 2012. Ruth was born to Roe and Vaugh McQuade on January 2, 1922 in Dallas, Texas. Her 90-year life was a consistent testimony to her faith and God’s faithfulness.
Ruth was the meteorologist at the Texarkana, Texas airport where she met the love of her life, Elijah Dean Propps. He was a young Air Force pilot who flew in to refuel on Christmas Day in 1944. She grounded him due to an “imaginary” snow storm at his next destination in hopes he was spending Christmas alone, too, and would take her to dinner. They married July 14, 1945 in Austin, Texas. Together they built a successful life and family from meager beginnings and their love for each other. Another inspiring story of the Greatest Generation.
For over 60 years, Ruth taught Sunday School in her churches; Ross Avenue Baptist in Dallas, Texas and Tallowood Baptist in Houston, Texas. She was passionate in supporting world missions through the church and was a tireless fundraiser for those programs.
Ruth will always be remembered for her elegance, grace and goodness. She had her own style and adorned her clothes with custom lace and flowers. Her home was filled with reminders of angels and her love of others. To know her was to know her soft spoken voice and her kind words of encouragement. She incorporated her knowledge and skill of sewing and lace into supporting the missions outreaches at her church, while challenging ladies to read the Bible to know Him better.
Ruth is survived by her two children and their spouses, Greta and Charles Collins, Gregory and Michelle Propps. Grandchildren, Mary Lee Collins-Bush, Elissa Collins-Bonner, Katherine Collins-Heath, JulieAnna Collins, Carly Propps, Marshall Propps , seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her Grandchildren called her Savta, which is Hebrew for Grandmother. She truly was a soft, sparkling testimony of the love of God.
Ruth is reunited in Heaven with her husband, Elijah Dean Propps, her parents, four sisters and numerous others. They all are rejoicing in the reunion.
No one is loved today more than you; Ruth, Savta, Mom. Words can never express how much you have taught us through your tenderness. Our love and gratitude for who you are will always remain in our hearts. We thank you, cherish you, and will always love you so very much. We’ll see you on the other side of the river.
Many thanks to Ruth’s caregivers; Virginia Velasquez, Linda Cunningham and Bridget Joe, whose loving care made Mom’s last four years so much more comfortable.
A memorial service and reception will be held on Friday, July 27 at 3:00 p.m. at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Drive, Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to Tallowood Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
